Reece Mallinger received the good news that he wanted to hear during his latest trip to Madison.

Mallinger and his twin brother, Hunter, are part of a group of highly-regarded in-state recruits within the state who are being targeted by the University of Wisconsin football program for the 2027 class. Mallinger’s seen his recruiting journey heat up substantially in the last eight months after returning from injury, but he hadn’t received an offer from the Badgers until recently. Hunter had announced one from the program after a June camp last year, but Mallinger received his during a meeting in coach Luke Fickell’s office during a Jan. 24 junior day event.

“I probably could have been a little more excited, but I was so kind of relieved in a way,” Mallinger said. “Like it’s a weight off my shoulders because I’ve been waiting for this offer for a while.

“I just felt a little bit more relaxed, because it was a great feeling.”
