Cole Reiter had some calls to make last week.

Reiter, a consensus four-star recruit in the 2027 class from in-state Germantown, was days removed from his latest unofficial visit to the University of Wisconsin football program. But he realized on that drive home on March 21 that he wanted to commit to the program, and that led to a string of separate conversations with key Badgers staff Tuesday.

“So what I did was I called four coaches, kind of to surprise them, and then I was going to surprise the staff on the day I committed,” Reiter said. “So I called coach (Luke) Fickell, coach (Eric) Mateos, (assistant offensive line) coach Casey Rabach and (director of recruiting) Pat Lambert.

“I called them, and it was really cool. I all kind of texted them, ‘You got time for a call?’ So I don’t know what they were expecting. When I told them the news, they were super pumped.”
