This Wisconsin freshman linebacker's already thinking like a veteran

MADISON, Wis. — Mason Posa’s shown his ability to contribute early during during the most daunting season the University of Wisconsin football team has faced in recent memory.

Posa, a freshman linebacker who was one the Badgers’ key 2025 recruiting wins, has played in five of six games for Wisconsin (2-4, 0-3 Big Ten) through the midway point of the 2025 season. He’s flashed his potential at inside linebacker, then expanded his responsibilities by working at another linebacker spot last week against Iowa.

Posa’s already gained invaluable experience on the road in some of college football’s renowned stadiums. No. 1 Ohio State (6-0, 3-0) now comes to town for a 2:30 p.m. CT kickoff Saturday, all part of a murderer’s row of foes that continues into November.

This is what he signed up for,

“I’m always going to say Big Ten is better than the SEC,” Posa said. “I know my goal in life was to play big-time football, and I know Wisconsin helped me with that. And just seeing their schedule, I was just like, yeah, it’s the place where I want to be.

“I got to go to Bama. I’ll get to go to Oregon (next week), went to Michigan, and just the environment here, and just in the Big Ten is amazing. It’s as close as it is to the NFL. And it’s just pretty cool.”

Watch and listen to Badger Observer’s conversation with Posa that touches on a variety of topics, including his introduction to the STAR linebacker position against the Hawkeyes last weekend, balancing football and academics, his wrestling background and more.
