MADISON, Wis. — The University of Wisconsin football program’s offseason emphasis after last year’s blowout at Iowa was all for naught.

Much had been made about the Badgers drilling home the number 42, the number of points they gave up last season at Kinnick Stadium, with some exercises during or other component to their workouts and practices. That could be 42 squats, or 42 pushups, or 42 pullups.

But Wisconsin (2-4, 0-3 Big Ten) saw Iowa (4-2, 2-1) come into Camp Randall Stadium and once again dominate in a 37-0 shutout over the Badgers on Saturday in front of an announced 76,064.

“That’s as low as it can be,” Wisconsin coach Luke Fickell said. “And I apologized to our guys to not be ready, to not have them ready. I’m dumbfounded in a lot of ways, but that’s my job. This is a game we’ve been talking about since January, and been doing a lot of things to make sure we were ready and prepared, and obviously we were not.

“First quarter was as bad as we could be. Obviously three turnovers and just not ability to overcome those things, even defensively, put us in a really, really tough situation, and we never got our head out above water after that. And so, it is a challenge right now. This is no place I’ve ever been, but I don’t know where else there is to go.”

Here are plenty of other thoughts from Wisconsin’s loss.
