MADISON, Wis. — The script flipped from last week’s practices for the University of Wisconsin football team.

Last Tuesday saw the defense continue a strong two-session stretch, only for the offense to respond the following Wednesday. Turn the page to this week, and offensive coordinator Jeff Grimes and his group found plenty of success Monday with red-zone touchdowns. But the first- and second-team defenses reasserted themselves during Tuesday’s open practice inside a damp Camp Randall Stadium.

Mike Tressel’s defense recorded a few interceptions between 11-on-11 and skeleton (7-on-7) periods Tuesday, and pressure in the backfield once again was a calling card for a number of defenders. It wasn’t entirely one-sided, as the offense clawed back towards the end of the session.

Badger Observer saunters forward with its fall camp coverage as it breaks down the last two practices. Now’s the perfect time to take advantage of Badger Observer’s new deal where fans can get ALL the coverage from Big Ten football media days, fall camp, recruiting and much more for $2 a month or $20/year!

Shamar Rigby emerging as a trusted target for Colton Joseph?

Rigby’s made quite the impact since returning to full participation recently, and his performances the last two sessions have added on from Sunday’s performance.

The 6-foot-4, 198-pound transfer reeled in a great touchdown Monday on a Colton Jospeh throw with coverage draped over him. Rigby, who caught 25 passes for 351 yards and one touchdown last season at Oklahoma State, once again showed great hands on a couple of receptions under the lights of Camp Randall Stadium on Tuesday.

Run game continues to open holes despite injuries

Wisconsin’s without its likely two starting linemen on its right side, guard Emerson Mandell and Kevin Heywood, plus three running backs (Bryan Jackson II, Nate Palmer and Juju Pope) who haven’t participated in 11-on-11 work the last two practices.

There’s still been success on both days.
