In a matter of hours, Alicia Andrew went from a local area Trader Joe’s to her new professional volleyball team.

Andrew finished grabbing groceries in downtown Madison, about two months after concluding a Final Four run with the University of Wisconsin volleyball program, when she received a phone call from one of the coaches from the Atlanta Vibe. The Major League Volleyball organization needed a middle blocker, and she was “100% in.”

Then came the next question.

How soon can you get here?

“And I was like, ‘When do you guys need me?’ Andrew said. “And they’re like, ‘We have a flight at 5 p.m.’

“So quite literally, it was 1:30 pm, I got a call. And there was probably 10 phone calls back and forth between me, the GM, and then just different people coordinating different things. And then I boarded a plane at 4 p.m. So I quite literally packed two bags in two hours, and then was on a plane here.”
