MADISON, Wis. — Jeff Grimes foreshadowed that Eugene Hilton Jr. would see the field this season, and the freshman was another one of the University of Wisconsin football team’s highly-regarded 2025 signees to make an early impact.

Grimes, Wisconsin’s offensive coordinator, said Aug. 15 that Hilton “definitely will have a role.” Hilton rotated in at receiver during the Badgers’ 17-0 win over Miami (Ohio) on Aug. 28, recording his first career reception for 11 yards in the third quarter that moved the chains on their second scoring drive.

“It was different, for sure,” Hilton said. “I was just kind of like in that mode, I get the chance to play. I go out there, give 100%. … But I think when it comes to you, it was just alright, no hesitation.

“I caught the ball, I got vertical fast, and I let the other stuff go out. But when I came to the sideline, I was excited, for sure.”

Badger Observer and other reporters spoke with Hilton on Tuesday to discuss a variety of topics ranging from his rapport with quarterback Danny O’Neil, a 2025 class that’s already contributing and much more.
