What led transfer offensive lineman Austin Kawecki to Wisconsin football
A chat with the offensive line transfer before he heads to Madison.

Austin Kawecki wanted to find the best opportunity for his final year of college football and receive the most development he could.
That’s led him to a familiar face, Eric Mateos, and the University of Wisconsin football program.
Kawecki showed versatility in working his way up to a starting role on the interior of the Oklahoma State offensive line last season, but he was one of the key transfer visitors at Wisconsin this past weekend. That trip to Madison led to his announced commitment Sunday, and the program declared his signing two days later.
Kawecki’s actually one of three former Cowboys who have been announced by the Badgers as transfer signees as of Jan. 8, joining cornerback Eric Fletcher and wide receiver Shamar Rigby.
“Coach Mateos is obviously someone I knew from high school recruiting, and heard a lot of great things about how he’s developed guys and gotten guys into the league and stuff like that,” Kawecki said. “So that was just a no-brainer to me to want to get to know more and see how he does things.
