'The right decision:' Inside Dustin Roach's commitment to Wisconsin football
Checking in with the latest Wisconsin commit about his decision to stay within the state, and also his latest visit to Madison.
Dustin Roach had already known the University of Wisconsin football program was home for a couple of months.
Roach, one of the highly-touted 2027 recruits from within the state, announced an offer from Wisconsin in early November. He admitted he knew “almost right away after” the Badgers staff gave him that opportunity, but he wanted to feel things out.
There were other offers from Eastern Michigan and Northern Illinois, as seen in his social media posts, along with trips to Iowa and Minnesota. But it didn’t take long for Roach to declare his intentions to join the Badgers last month.
“Coach (Jack) Cooper really, really helped me make my decision, getting closer to him and him getting closer to my family,” Roach said. “And just always wanted to be a Badger for a long time and play for a Big Ten team, so at the highest level.
“I just knew what the right decision was.”
