Two legal cases that involve the University of Wisconsin football team could have major ramifications beyond the program itself.

Boise State assistant professor Sam C. Ehrlich has become one of the country’s experts and has launched his College Sports Litigation Tracker to keep tabs on all the major cases ongoing that could affect collegiate athletics. He joined Badger Observer for a 24-minute conversation Tuesday about cornerback Nyzier Fourqurean’s battle for eligibility against the NCAA, along with Wisconsin’s lawsuit against Miami regarding the departure of cornerback Xavier Lucas last winter.

Here’s what all was discussed in the video below:

  • [1:13] Sam’s background and why he started the College Sports Litigation Tracker

  • [4:30] How the latest news from Fourqurean’s case is a good news/bad news situation for the cornerback, but ultimately could be a good sign overall for him.

  • [9:17] How Fourqurean’s legal team adjusted after the initial preliminary injunction by Judge William M. Conley was reversed on appeal.

  • [12:06] What’s working in Fourqurean’s favor, and what’s working in the NCAA’s favor?

  • [14:50] How Wisconsin’s lawsuit against Miami could change college athletics.

  • [16:56] What are the compelling factors in Wisconsin’s favor?

  • [18:17] Does Miami’s motion to dismiss have valid arguments?

  • [21:06] What fans should be paying attention to in both cases that maybe others aren’t?
