PLATTEVILLE, Wis. — Luke Fickell struck a positive tone after the University of Wisconsin football team’s final practice away from Madison, though he still knows there’s work ahead for his Badgers.

The storms forecasted for Saturday night never materialized, but Wisconsin and its fans still dealt with the heat and humidity inside a sultry Ralph E. Davis Pioneer Stadium. The team practiced for around two hours and featured highlights from the first-team offense and defense, along with a lot of snaps for younger players.

“Well first of all, obviously, it's been a great 14 days, and there's a lot of things have happened out here, and I really do think we're in a really good place,” Fickell said. “I'm not being complacent of any sorts. We still have a really, really good week as we go back to campus, where we'll stay in this camp mode, where we'll push and have all-day stuff morning and afternoon.

“And then next Saturday, we'll kind of wrap up, what I would say camp with another good scrimmage, and then we'll give these guys a little bit of break. And then kind of shift gears, even though we still got a ways to the first game, but there's a lot of really good things.”

Here are four other thoughts from Saturday’s practice.
