5 thoughts from Wisconsin football fall camp practice No. 9
Another offensive line combination, this time due to an injury, the offense has success all over the field, and some high praise for a transfer edge rusher.

PLATTEVILLE, Wis. — The University of Wisconsin football team missed a key veteran presence on the offensive line Friday.
But Jake Renfro also appears to have eluded calamity before he could hit the field for his sixth collegiate football season.
Renfro dressed but did not participate during Wisconsin’s penultimate practice inside Ralph E. Davis Pioneer Stadium. He’s been designated as week-to-week but didn’t have any significant structural damage on a lower body injury, according to a Wisconsin spokesperson.
Renfro was seen walking around the field on his own power Friday, though gingerly, but he rode one of the team’s stationary bikes off to the side during an early portion of practice.
The program also hasn’t ruled Renfro out for the 2025 season opener Aug. 28 at home against Miami (Ohio), which is quite the positive sign considering how bad the injury looked Thursday. Renfro needed help off the field after a running play, and staff and teammates ultimately assisted him to a cart.
Renfro started all 12 games last season and in the 2024 ReliaQuest Bowl against LSU. He’s one of three returning starters to Wisconsin’s offensive line with left guard Joe Brunner and right tackle Riley Mahlman.
Graduate Kerry Kodanko received first-team reps in place of Renfro during 11-on-11 team periods Friday. Kodanko started fall camp battling for first-team right guard reps with redshirt freshman Emerson Mandell, though Kodanko has received more snaps at center of late.
Here are three thoughts from Platteville after Friday’s practice.
