5 thoughts from Wisconsin football fall camp No. 8
A second-year running back shows his physicality and burst down the field, some notes during red zone work, and a freshman linebacker who continues to catch your eye.

PLATTEVILLE, Wis. — One of the University of Wisconsin football team’s key 2024 signees continued to show he’s ready to carry the rock for the offense.
Redshirt freshman running back Dilin Jones, a former consensus four-star recruit, reeled off two long runs with the first-team offense during Thursday’s practice inside Ralph E. Davis Pioneer Stadium.
The first came early on the second play of the initial 11-on-11 period, finding the hole behind the first-team offensive line and bursting down the right side of the field for what could be called a touchdown1.
Jones has further emerged from spring practices where he assumed first-team reps within Jeff Grimes’ new offense that emphasizes a wide zone rushing attack. He’s continued that upward trajectory during the early portion of fall camp where there’s at least a couple other suitors for carries in the backfield.
Assistant Devon Spalding first praised Jones’ decision making when discussing the back’s development.
“He's done a really nice job when he's got the ball in his hands,” Spalding said. “He's grown his entire knowledge of the offense. He's starting to really understand defensive structure.
“Really good communication with the offensive line, his physicality, he's grown with his pass protection. So I really think that he's improved in every area of his game, and I'm really pleased of where he's at.”
