6 thoughts from Wisconsin basketball's loss to No. 5 Purdue
Takeaways from the home loss during the start of a key January stretch for the Badgers.
MADISON, Wis. — The significant number of fans adorning black and gold at the Kohl Center got quite the show Saturday.
Greg Gard and his University of Wisconsin basketball team kept it close for the first half in hosting No. 5 Purdue, but Badgers mistakes and continued poor shooting from deep were among the reasons that led to an 89-73 home loss to the Boilermakers. Purdue faithful stayed past the final whistle and boisterously cheered Matt Painter’s squad as players headed back to their locker room.
Here are some quick thoughts from after the game.
Wisconsin’s sloppy play gave Purdue a huge advantage
Wisconsin (9-5, 1-2 Big Ten) trailed by seven points at halftime, but it could have been much closer if not for committing eight turnovers that led to 13 points for Purdue (13-1, 3-0).
The Badgers calmed down in the second half, but the Boilermakers held an overall 18-9 advantage in points off of turnovers.
