MADISON, Wis. — Wisconsin guard Nick Boyd drives during the Badgers’ matchup against No. 10 Michigan State at the Kohl Center on Friday.

MADISON, Wis. — Tom Izzo led off his postgame availability with a candid and accurate summary of what transpired against the University of Wisconsin basketball team.

Wisconsin (18-7, 10-4 Big Ten) built on an early lead and never trailed, accumulating a double-digit advantage less than 10 minutes into the first half on way to a 92-71 victory over No. 10 Michigan State (20-5, 10-4) on Friday at the Kohl Center.

“Well, first of all, that was a good old fashioned ass kicking, to be honest with you,” Izzo said.

“And yet, the big thing we wanted to avoid was turn the ball over early — we did a great job of that — and taking away their 3s. And the first three shots, I think they hit some 3s, and it was kind of downhill after that.”

Badger Observer broke down more thoughts from the game below, but be sure to also watch the postgame press conference with coach Greg Gard and three Badgers, plus the court storming by Wisconsin fans.

The Kohl Center energy was palpable

The arena was packed, and many fans (not all) adhered to the “Stripe Out” recommendation. The big-game feel was further enhanced by the Badgers faithful roaring early and often. Eruptions of cheers came during key shots and loud boos rained down on officials after particular calls. An “overrated” chat bellowed with 2 minutes, 39 seconds remaining during a second half timeout.

It’s another contest that exemplified what’s made the Kohl Center such a tough road environment for years.

This was what we thought this Wisconsin team could be entering the season
